What hot-blooded man in his right mind would choose Plain Jane, Tatyana Becall over meâSasha Davenport? It made no sense. I was every manâs dream even when he didnât realize it. I commanded attention when I entered a room; I received endless compliments on my appearance because of my keen fashion sense. I didnât dress merely for my body typeâI dressed for menâs viewing pleasure. I understood the difference and importance of dressing to please the opposite sex.
Men were visual creatures by nature. Their eyes gravitated toward a womanâs breasts, so mine were always prominently and tastefully displayed. They enjoyed a womanâs lips, so mine always looked glossy and wet. And my long legs stayed soft and smooth to the touch.
I glanced at my reflection in the mirror and marveled at how far I had come. I wasnât always as polished as I appeared. I had learned some tough lessons. My first marriage taught me a valuable lesson: No woman in her right mind should ever marry for love. Marriage was and should always be a business arrangement. By marriage number two, I had the right idea, but again, the wrong man.
He was a third-string player who had a little change, but he thought he could turn me into what he wanted. That didnât last long. If I had to admit it, Iâd say my thirst for Mr. Right might have been too aggressive, but when he left the league, I knew I had to find a replacement. I had no idea it would take as long as it had. I had been single for more than five years and that was not a good lookânot with all I was trying to do.
But now, I knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted a man like Dax. I wanted to be on the arm of a bona-fide superstar player.
âBut this time, I know Iâm gonna get it right,â I said as I turned to look at my ass in the mirror. I couldnât leave anything to chance. If Dax was gonna be at the event, I had to be on point. Brown was his favorite color, so I worked the hell out of a satin, brown pencil skirt and a matching lace halter top. I knew for sure Iâd catch his eye and hold his attention. I had done everything in my power to make sure heâd be there; I knew heâd bring Tatyana, but I couldnât do anything about that. Besides, her presence wouldnât stop me from working my jelly, so it was all good. I pressed a button on my cell phone and listened as the phone rang loudly.
âMcKenzie, itâs Saaasha. Call me right away,â I said the moment her voicemail clicked on. Then I ended the call.
Because Tatyana was in the club, Iâd have to be subtle, but it was time I made my intentions known. I fussed with my hair a little more, then added more MAC lip gloss.
When the phone rang, I reached for it. It was McKenzie.
